Kathleen Deeter graduated from the The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006.

Kathleen Deeter's work explores the limits of what fiber art can express or represent. Grounded by a time intensive weaving process she funnels narrative, emotional explorations, and memory into both usable objects and fine art abstractions. More than a simple one to one translation, this internalization, this labor and focus, embeds the fiber itself with the personal.

In her landscape tapestries she harnesses abstraction to represent the world around her, be that her current urban Chicago landscape, or one more like the rural Kansas home she was raised as a child. In her apparel, she focuses her attention on designing some highly stylized pieces that are as much sculpture as clothing, and distorted in a similar way to her landscapes.

Deeter's current projects balance geometric and organic shapes, vibrant splashes of color, visible line-work, and multiple dueling textures in order to define each fiber landscape or object.
